The Microbiology Lab tests the following types of material sent by physicians or brought in by patients:

• bacteriological
• mycological
• serological
1. toxoplasmosis diagnosis
2. detection of Helicobacter pylori antibodies ( latex method)
3. detection of Rotavirus, Adenovirus in feces (immunochromatography)

The laboratory uses diagnostic methods recommended by the National Specialist of Microbiological Diagnosis.

The laboratory participates in the External Evaluation of Microbiological Test Reliability POLMICRO.

The range of tests include:

1. Micro-organism identification in oxygen conditions
2. Sensitivity to chemotherapeutics of isolated bacterial tribes (bacterial method)
3. Drug sensitivity determination considering MIC ( E-tests, VITEK, ATB)
4. Isolation and identification of yeast – like fungi, and their drug sensitivity determination.
5. Serologic diagnosis – detection of viral infections: HBV, HCV, HIV, CMV, rotaviruses, rubella and the others: ASO, RF, Wwwler Rose, syphilis, toxoplasmosis.
6. Epidemiology of hospital infections, sterilization process control, environmental examinations

The laboratory manager - 2nd stage specialist in scope microbiology - participates in work done by the hospital infections team and therapeutic team.

The laboratory is equipped with the following modern devices:

1. Monitored system of blood culture - Bac TALERT
2. Automatic computer system of micro organism identification and sensitivity determination – VITEK, miniAPI
3. Automatic computer system of serological diagnosis - VIDAS
4. Laminar chamber
5. Fume hood
6. CO2 Incubator
7. Freezer ( - 87 degrees)
8. Computer system with special software for data archiving - CENTRUM
