Services:
- The microbiology department serves both the general hospital and private patients in identifying etiological agents of infections by carrying out culture, isolation, identification and sensitivity of bacteria and fungi (yeasts) from all kinds of clinical specimens in aerobic, microaerophilic and anaerobic conditions. The laboratory provides a unique range of diagnostics on fecal specimens including SS, Yersinia enterocolitica and Campylobacter culture, viral studies (Rota, Adeno) and C. difficile toxin detection.
- In antibacterial susceptibility testing, the DDA method is used and MICs (minimal inhibitory concentrations) are determined with Etest and automated method systems (ATB Expression, VITEK) together with the detection of resistance mechanisms according to the recommendation of The Reference Center of Antibacterial Susceptibility.
- Precise culture and microorganism identification results are obtained by using both manual and automated systems including mini Api, Vitek and BacTaLERT system (bioMerieux) for blood culture and other body fluids.
Quality Assurance:
- the laboratory follows strict internal quality standards
- the laboratory successfully participates in the external National Quality Assurace Programme POLMICRO
